Budget 2026: For People’s Finances

The time has come for Malaysians to be aware of their yearly budgeting now that Budget 2026 has been announced at Dewan Rakyat by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on the 10th of October 2025.

With an increased budget allocation from the previous 2025 budget RM421 billion [2] to RM470 billion for this year, the initiative focuses on various aspects such as economic reformation, governance efficiency, and the needs of the citizens. [1]

Let’s look at some of the aids you are eligible to receive as a Malaysian!

Budget 2026 Highlights

How does Budget 2026 Address the Cost of Living?

  • Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) & Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) [1] [4]

- A combined of RM15 billion has been allocated for STR and SARA.

- Increased STR aid to RM2,200 per year.

  • RAHMAH sale is still maintained with the discount of 30% off for daily life necessities. [1] [3]

  • RON95 subsidy maintained RM1.99/litre price for Malaysians [1] [3]

  • Special Financial Aids [1] [3]:

- RM500 for government workers grade 15 and below including under contract.

- RM200 for government pensioners.

Financial aids mainly help directly to the individuals in terms of cash aids for lifestyle necessities. You can utilise this for groceries, medicines, or daily-life items which largely help middle to low-income families.

How does Budget 2026 Helps Accessibility in Education?

  • Free PTPTN for 5,800 IPTA students coming from low-income families. [1] [3] [4]

  • PTPTN loan exemption for students from low and middle-income families who graduate with a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree from IPTA. [1] [3] [4]

  • Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP) RM150 to help with school necessities. [1] [3]

Budgeting for education is crucial to build an intellect-driven society as it opens opportunities for lesser privileged students to gain access to knowledge. With initiative as such to make path for accessible and affordable education, it pushes for a future lead by intellectual youths.

How will Budget 2026 Improve Accessibility to Transportation and Enhance Road Safety?

  • Free MyRailLife pass for OKU, students, and children below 6 years of age [1] [3] [4]
  • Vehicle disposals grant in which owners of cars over 20 years old are eligible to receive grant up to RM4,000 to dispose of their old car and buy a new national car. [1] [3] [4]

Free public transportation for certain demographics in need and affordable car replacement is some of the initiatives for easier and cheaper transportation modes—knowing that our infrastructure and weather does not really allow Malaysia to be pedestrian-friendly. After all, every citizen deserves to get one place to another safe and sound.
